Xiaomi-Leica Collaboration

The partnership with Leica has proven to be a game-changer. The collaboration goes beyond just branding - it includes Leica's renowned color science and lens expertise. The Summilux lenses and Leica's color tuning have resulted in impressive picture quality with lively, warm, and bright images with great dynamic range.

HyperOS Experience

The new HyperOS has exceeded expectations. It features smoother animations than previous MIUI versions and even some competitors. The interface feels more refined and modern, with improved battery performance, storage management, and customization options compared to MIUI 14.

The Photography Kit: A Game-Changing Accessory

What truly sets the 14 Ultra apart is its optional Photography Kit. Priced at around $227, this accessory transforms the phone into something closer to a professional camera.

Software Evolution: HyperOS Surprises

One of the most pleasant surprises is Xiaomi's new HyperOS, which replaces the older MIUI interface. The system shows significant improvements with smoother animations than many competitors. The software experience, often a pain point for Xiaomi devices, has taken a substantial leap forward.

Challenges and Considerations

Despite its impressive features, the 14 Ultra isn't without its drawbacks. The premium pricing, especially without the trade-in deals offered by competitors like Samsung, might give some potential buyers pause. While the software has improved, some bloatware remains, and battery performance, despite the large 5000mAh capacity, has been reported as average by some users.

The Verdict

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra represents a significant milestone in smartphone photography. With its Leica partnership, professional-grade Photography Kit, and improved software experience, it's clear that Xiaomi is no longer content with being just another player in the smartphone market. While the price point and some software quirks might give pause, the device stands as a testament to what's possible when a manufacturer goes all-in on creating a premium photography experience in a smartphone form factor.

For photography enthusiasts willing to invest in the complete package – including the Photography Kit – the Xiaomi 14 Ultra offers a compelling alternative to traditional cameras, pushing the boundaries of what we expect from smartphone photography. It's not just a phone with good cameras; it's a photography tool that happens to be a flagship phone,

in the right hands – or wrong ones, depending on your perspective – the Xiaomi 14 Ultra could document the collapse of civilization in stunning 8K video with professional-grade stabilization. We live in strange times when a Chinese company can outgun the establishment with a device that makes the iPhone look like it was designed by Fisher-Price.

Here is a creative model shoot i did in Thailand with beautiful Russian Models Alya and Kristina. Wow i could have done some stunning photos if i had a real camera that day, what a long, calm beautiful sunset it was. nearly 3 full hours a beautiful soft natural light, that you could not recreate in any studio, i purposely shot everything in Phones Camera Automatic Mode, we got carried away drinking and snaped a lot of photos, many turned out way batter than you would expect from many point and shoot cameras in Automatic Mode. No editing or even color correction. See a lot more in Flickr Album
